Construction hours in Clayton County, GA — sometimes called construction noise rules or contractor work-hour ordinances — set when contractors can run power tools, hammers, and heavy equipment.
Clayton County sets no fixed daily start/stop hours for construction. Loud or prolonged construction noise is judged by the 50-foot reasonable-person standard, and a special noise permit (valid up to 45 consecutive days) is required for construction that cannot meet the ordinance.
Unlike many cities, unincorporated Clayton County does not publish a fixed construction start/stop clock. Ordinary construction noise is measured against § 62-3.2's general standard: no loud, unnecessary sound audible 50 feet or more from its origin that disturbs a reasonable person. Where a temporary construction operation cannot comply, § 62-3.5 lets the director of community development issue a special permit. Applicants apply in writing at least 21 days ahead, pay an administrative fee, and the permit states conditions to minimize impact on residential areas. For construction activities no permit is valid more than 45 consecutive days, though it may be renewed. Domestic power equipment has its own 8 a.m.–9 p.m. window under § 62-3.4(9).
Construction noise without required permits or exceeding the reasonable-person standard is a misdemeanor under Code § 1-12: a fine not exceeding $1,000.00 or six months imprisonment, or both.
