Galt limits construction noise to roughly 7 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday, with no construction on Sundays or holidays absent a permit. Emergency repair work is exempt. Contractors must also comply with SMAQMD dust and equipment rules during work.
The Galt Municipal Code restricts construction, demolition, grading, and exterior remodeling activity that produces loud noise to daytime hours, typically 7 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday. Sunday and federal holiday construction is generally prohibited unless the Building Official or Public Works Director issues a written exception for projects that cannot be safely stopped, such as concrete pours or utility repairs. Interior work that does not generate noise audible at the property line is usually permitted outside these hours. In addition to the noise ordinance, contractors working in Galt must comply with Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD) rules covering dust control, diesel idling limits (five minutes), and small off-road engine requirements. Because Galt is subject to California AB 1346, gas-powered small off-road engines such as leaf blowers and many construction tools can no longer be sold new as of January 1, 2024; battery alternatives are expected on new jobs. Builders near the Cosumnes River or within FEMA Special Flood Hazard Areas must also observe floodplain development standards that affect work hours and staging.
Working outside permitted hours is an infraction with fines that generally begin around 100 dollars and increase with repeat violations. Stop-work orders can be issued for projects creating ongoing violations, and building permits can be conditioned or suspended.
