Under Chapter 222 of the Jersey City Code of Ordinances, the erection, demolition, alteration, or repair of any building is only permitted between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM on weekdays. Saturday construction is restricted to 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Sunday and holiday construction is prohibited except in cases of urgent public health or safety necessity, and only with express approval from the Construction Official. Emergency permits may be granted for periods not exceeding three days and may be renewed in three-day increments while the emergency continues. If public health and safety would not be impaired, the Construction Official may also grant permission for after-hours work between 6:00 PM and 7:00 AM on a case-by-case basis.
