City of Sarasota Code § 20-4(a)(2)d makes it unlawful to run construction, drilling, demolition, land-clearing or landfilling equipment between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on weekdays, or between 9:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays. The only exceptions are emergency work by a public utility or activity covered by a city-approved permit. Section 20-7(5) separately exempts construction that runs 6:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. weekdays or 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. weekends/holidays when required permits are in hand and equipment mufflers meet manufacturer spec. Violations go to the code compliance special magistrate, not criminal court.
