Wylie, TX Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Wylie treats construction and delivery noise as one of the enumerated prohibited acts in the noise article, Chapter 42 Article II. Sec. 42-22(5) bars construction, erection, excavation, demolition, alteration or repair work on any building, plus the delivery of materials to or for a construction site, outside the 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. window on Mondays through Saturdays; by leaving Sundays and federal holidays out of the permitted window entirely, the section bars that work on those days regardless of the time. Builders working near Wylie ISD campuses, the Ballard Avenue downtown or new subdivisions between Lake Lavon and Lake Ray Hubbard have to schedule concrete pours, framing and material deliveries inside that 14-hour Monday-through-Saturday window.

The city manager or a designee can issue a special permit for work outside the ordinary hours, but only in a case of urgent necessity and in the interest of public safety and convenience, a narrow standard rather than a routine variance. Sec. 42-23 sets the penalty for any Article II violation at whatever the general penalty in Sec. 1-13 allows, up to $500.00 per offense, with each day of a continuing violation treated as a separate offense. Sec. 42-23 further preserves any affected property owner's or occupant's right to sue for damages or other remedies at law or in equity, and Sec. 42-24 gives the city an independent right to seek an injunction against a contractor who keeps working outside the permitted hours.
