Wylie, TX Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

Wylie's general nighttime quiet-hours rule sits in Chapter 42, Article II, Noise, as the first of eleven enumerated prohibited acts in Sec. 42-22. Subsection (1) targets household media and instruments, a phonograph, television, radio or musical instrument, played at a volume that annoys or disturbs the quiet, comfort or repose of persons of ordinary sensibilities in any dwelling, hotel or other type of residence, and it particularly calls out 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. as the window where that standard applies most readily, without limiting the prohibition to only those hours.

The broader catch-all in Sec. 42-21 separately bars any unreasonably loud, disturbing noise that causes material distress or interferes with the comfortable enjoyment of private homes, so a resident's television or stereo can violate either section depending on the facts an officer observes. Because the test is a person of ordinary sensibilities in the vicinity rather than a decibel reading, Wylie police officers can issue a citation based on a neighbor's disturbance complaint without special equipment. Sec. 42-23 sets the penalty for any Article II violation at the Sec.

1-13 general penalty, a fine up to $500.00 per offense, with each day of a continuing disturbance a separate offense. Sec. 42-23 also preserves a property owner's or occupant's right to sue for damages or other remedies, and Sec. 42-24 lets the city seek injunctive relief against a chronic violator.
