Sec. 13-101 makes it unlawful to create any noise exceeding the article's limits except as expressly permitted, and Sec. 13-102 sets the numeric standard in Table I by 'use district category': all residential and general-use zoning districts count as residential, hospital-medical, tourist, business, marina and government uses count as commercial, and all industrial districts count as industrial, with anything unclassified defaulting to the commercial standard. A violation requires the sound to exceed the applicable Table I limit for more than ten percent of a measurement period of at least ten minutes, measured at or beyond the property boundary of the source, and when a residential district abuts a commercial or industrial one, the more restrictive residential limit controls at that boundary.

Where an industrial district adjoins a district that allows residences, the maximum permitted level at the boundary is reduced by six decibels below the table figure. 0002 inch impact at forty cycles per second and above. Short-duration impact sounds like forge hammers, punch presses and metal shears may be measured with an impact noise filter and are allowed six decibels above the standard octave-band sound pressure table. Noises from motor vehicles and other transportation are excluded from the Table I calculation entirely. The article was last substantively amended by Ord.
