West Palm Beach, FL Noise Ordinances: Leaf Blower Rules (2026)

Section 34-38 of the noise control article regulates outdoor power equipment in two layers. The general rule in subsection (b) bars operating lawn mowers, edgers, weed trimmers, blowers, chippers, chain saws and other noise-producing power tools outdoors between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. on residential property. Golf course maintenance crews get slightly more room: equipment used within 50 yards of a residential dwelling is still cut off at 8:00 p.m. and can't restart before 7:00 a.m., but crews working 50 yards or farther from housing can start as early as 6:00 a.m.

Subsection (c) then overrides all of that for leaf blowers and chain saws specifically: those two tools cannot run anywhere in the city, including on golf courses, between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., a full hour tighter than the general power-tool curfew and with no golf-course carve-out. Subsection (a) separately requires that landscaping and yard equipment keep whatever factory sound-control devices, mufflers or baffling it shipped with; running equipment with the manufacturer's noise controls removed or degraded is its own violation regardless of the hour.

The article's enforcement chain applies here as everywhere else in chapter 34: a noise control officer, meaning a city police officer, code enforcement officer, environmental inspector or building and zoning inspector, investigates complaints and issues the written warning and notice-of-violation sequence set out in §§ 34-44 and 34-45.
