Under Borough Code Chapter 215, no person may make, continue, or cause excessive or unusually loud noise that constitutes a noise disturbance. The chapter specifically restricts radios, musical instruments, televisions, phonographs, drums, and similar sound-producing devices when they cause a disturbance. Refuse-compacting vehicles are barred from operating in residential districts between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Exterior burglar alarms must shut off within 30 minutes of activation. The Bergenfield Police Department enforces these rules and may issue a 24-hour written abatement notice in lieu of a summons.
