Lynnwood, WA Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

Lynnwood layers two mechanisms into its nighttime quiet hours. First, LMC 10.12.300(B) lists specific prohibited acts tied to the 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. window: subsection (B)(7) bars yelling, shouting, hooting, whistling or singing, particularly during those hours, so as to disturb the quiet, comfort and repose of anyone in a hospital, rest home, dwelling, hotel, motel or other residence; (B)(5) restricts heavy-vehicle idling near residential zones to the same hours; and (B)(10) restricts outdoor power tools, saws and blowers to the same window. Second, LMC 10.12.500 sets numeric environmental noise ceilings by EDNA zone classification, and subsection (B)(1) automatically tightens them at night: between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., the maximum permissible noise level in the chapter's table is reduced by 10 dBA for any receiving property within a Class A (residential) EDNA.

Short, occasional spikes are still allowed under LMC 10.12.500(B)(2), which permits exceeding the applicable limit by 5 dBA for up to 15 minutes, 10 dBA for up to five minutes, or 15 dBA for up to one and one-half minutes in any hour. The Lynnwood Police Department enforces noise-disturbance complaints under LMC 10.12.700(A); the development and business services department enforces the numeric standard for other noise sources under LMC 10.12.700(B). A violation of the prohibited-acts list or the numeric standard is a misdemeanor under LMC 10.12.800.
