Mosinee, WI Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

Section 54-193(b)(2) of the Mosinee Code of Ordinances gives the city's nighttime noise rule a low bar to enforce. It first bars using or operating any radio receiving set, musical instrument, phonograph or similar sound-producing device in a loud and unnecessary manner at any hour. in a way that is plainly audible at the property line of the building, structure or vehicle where it is located, that fact alone is prima facie evidence of a violation. In practice that shifts the burden to the person running the device: an officer does not need a sound-level-meter reading to write a citation for nighttime noise, only proof that the sound crossed the property line during the curfew window.

The city's broader stationary noise-limit table in subsection (d)(1) still applies around the clock and can independently support a violation, but subsection (b)(2) is the specific tool for late-night radios, stereos and similar devices. Emergency equipment, including police, fire, ambulance, civil defense sirens and snow removal equipment, is exempt from the article under subsection (d)(5). Enforcement runs through the police department by citation, and because subsection (b)(2) carries no separate fine, a violation is punished under the city's general penalty in § 1-13.
