Boynton Beach, FL Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

Sec. 5(b)(2) makes it unlawful to use or operate any loudspeaker, loudspeaker system or similar device, including sound emitting devices which may be physically attached to any motor vehicle, outside the narrow activities exempted in Sec. 6(d). Separately, Sec. 5(b)(10) prohibits operating any automobile, motorcycle or vehicle so out of repair, so loaded or in such a manner as to cause loud grating, grinding, rattling or other noise that is plainly audible from a distance of twenty-five (25) feet or more, covering a blown exhaust, a loose load, or a failing muffler.

Horn misuse is covered too: Sec. 5(b)(13) bars sounding any horn or signaling device, except as a danger warning, for any unnecessary or an excessive period of time. The City does not duplicate the state's vehicle equipment code: Sec. 6(a) exempts general motor vehicle noise enforcement procedures and defers to Florida Statutes Chapter 316 and the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, but the exemption is written to expressly exclude vehicle-mounted sound systems, which remain prohibited under Sec. 5(b)(2). S. Chapter 316, while a car stereo audible down the block, a rattling load in a pickup bed, or a driver leaning on the horn falls under the City's own noise ordinance.

Violations carry the same second-degree misdemeanor penalty set out in Sec. 7 for the rest of the noise article, and the Code Compliance Board prosecutes the offense.
