It is hereby declared unlawful for any individual to park, cause to be parked or allow to be parked any of the following vehicles for a longer period than fifteen (15) minutes or to allow the vehicle motor or any accessory refrigeration or cooling motor running in any area of the City zoned for single- or two-family residential use as defined on the City's official zoning map or along any street that fronts such residential area without regard to the zoning classification:(1)Any truck, truck cab, truck trailer, farm, or construction vehicle or heavy equipment, semi-tractor, bus, dump truck, or wrecker/tow truck;(2)Any motor vehicle with more than two (2) axles excluding a recreational vehicle;(3)Any motor vehicle having a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) greater than sixteen thousand (16,000) pounds excluding a recreational vehicle; and(4)Any truck with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) between fourteen thousand (14,000) pounds and sixteen thousand one (16,001) pounds that has been designed or modified for commercial moving, shipping, or trucking purposes (i.e., "box" truck).

City Code Sec. 14-3 makes it unlawful to park, or leave running, any truck, truck cab, truck trailer, farm or construction vehicle, semi-tractor, bus, dump truck or wrecker/tow truck for longer than 15 minutes in a residential zone or on a street fronting one. The ban also reaches any vehicle with more than two axles, any vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating over 16,000 pounds, and box trucks between 14,000 and 16,001 pounds GVWR modified for commercial moving or shipping, whether or not they are recreational vehicles.
Ordinary pickup trucks that would otherwise meet those weight or axle thresholds are carved out and remain legal. The stated purposes are eliminating overnight visual blight, protecting rights-of-way from damage, preserving residential property values, cutting congestion and protecting children from traffic injuries. Exceptions exist for vehicles actively loading, unloading, delivering goods or engaged in permitted construction work at the property, and recreational vehicles are regulated separately. The section was last amended by Ordinance No. 19-017 in May 2019, building on rules dating to the 1958 Code.
