Under Sec. 20-6 of the City Code, a recreation vehicle, boat, or boat trailer may be parked in a carport, on a driveway, or stored in the rear yard no closer than five feet to the rear lot line, or in the side yard as long as it does not project beyond the front roofline. The unit must be owned or used by a resident of the premises and must carry current state and federal registration and license. Placement between the right-of-way and the structure is allowed only on a driveway or other hard surface such as asphalt, paving stones, shell rock, or concrete, and only one recreation vehicle may sit in that zone.

Total units of this kind kept on the lot (outside a garage) are capped at two. Everything must be stored entirely on the owner's property in a safe, orderly manner that does not create a hazard for people using the driveway or sidewalk, and a unit undergoing construction, reconstruction, or major repair for more than seven consecutive days loses its exemption. Sec. 20-3 defines a covered "recreation vehicle" as a travel trailer, motor home, slide-in camper, or similar chassis-mounted unit (excluding vans) no longer than 35 feet and no wider than 8 feet, used for temporary dwelling or sleeping and legally towable on a highway, plus any boat or boat trailer.

Sec. 20-7 separately bars parking or storing any of these units on a public right-of-way for more than one hour. Sec. 20-8 makes it unlawful to occupy a recreation vehicle while it sits on private property unless the applicable zoning district specifically permits that use. Sec. 20-4 states that any other city ordinance or state law imposing stricter limits controls over this chapter, and Sec. 20-5 leaves tighter HOA or condominium deed restrictions fully enforceable even though the City itself will not enforce private covenants.
