City Code Sec. 14-5 lists specific places where stopping, standing or parking is prohibited except momentarily to pick up or drop off a passenger. Vehicles cannot stand in front of a public or private driveway, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, within 30 feet of a flashing signal or stop sign, or within 20 feet of a fire station driveway (75 feet on the opposite side when posted). Parking is also barred on sidewalks, within intersections, on crosswalks, on bridges, on railroad tracks and within 30 feet of a safety zone's curb ends.
Subsection (a)(4), added by Ordinance No. 25-018 effective November 4, 2025, separately bars stopping, standing or parking on the public right-of-way or on a private or public yard, swale, or easement adjacent to a paved or unpaved street at any time, with a narrow carve-out: temporary yard parking for a residence's social or special event is allowed but cannot exceed 12 hours in any 24-hour period, and that exception never applies to short-term rentals. Every parked vehicle on the right-of-way must also display visible front, rear and side reflectors and a visible license plate unless parked in a marked or signed space.
Violations & Fines
A violation of Sec. 14-5 is enforced as a parking citation under the City's civil penalty schedule in Sec. 14-11, and vehicles blocking driveways, hydrants or fire lanes are subject to towing at the owner's expense under the City's towing services agreement (Sec. 14-5.1), which adds an administrative charge of up to 25 percent of the maximum towing rate set by Palm Beach County.
