Murrieta, CA Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

48 of the Murrieta Municipal Code, adopted by Ordinance 311 in 2004, regulates off-road vehicles: motorcycles, trail bikes, dune buggies, motorized or electric scooters and jeeps. 040 makes it unlawful to operate, or allow the operation of, one of these vehicles within fifty feet of the exterior boundary of any residential property, or within a public right-of-way inside seventy-five feet of an animal stable, livestock pen or riding arena on an adjacent lot. The restriction does not apply to a person operating on their own property, on land they hold a lawful easement over for ingress or egress, or in connection with a lawfully operated motorcycle sale and service business in the city.

The same section caps dirt-track berms, jumps and ramps at four vertical feet above natural grade if they are visible from the street or in public view, and exempts conduct already covered by Penal Code Section 372 or expressly permitted by state statute. 010 must carry a standard factory-installed muffler or its equivalent meeting Vehicle Code Section 27150, and the muffler cannot have a cutoff or bypass device, cannot have baffle plates removed, and cannot be modified in any way that raises the decibel level above what the stock equipment produced.

060 separately makes it unlawful to assemble, disassemble or repair an off-road or motorized vehicle if the work creates a nuisance from noise, smoke, dust, vibration or unsightly conditions. 32's general penalty schedule rather than a chapter-specific fine.
