Wyandotte County, KS Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

Sec. 22-125 bars operating or playing a radio, tape player, television, phonograph, musical instrument, sound amplifier, or similar device in or on a vehicle if the sound can be heard more than 50 feet away, with no separate exception for whether the vehicle is parked or driving, or for the time of day. The only carve-out in the section itself is for parades that have actually been issued a permit by the unified government; an unpermitted gathering of vehicles playing music does not qualify. 22-124, separately targets mechanical vehicle noise rather than audio equipment: it is unlawful for the owner or operator of a stationary engine, automobile engine, or motor at or near residences to let the exhaust emit loud and annoying noise at frequent intervals, and every such engine must have proper muffling equipment on its exhaust pipe. Both sections sit in the same article as the county's general loitering and noise-disturbance offenses, and a vehicle stereo violation can also be charged as a noise disturbance under Sec.

22-128 if it is plainly audible across a residential property line, which separately carries its own class C penalty. Neither Sec. 22-124 nor Sec. 22-125 states its own violation class in the text, so both default to the unclassified violation schedule in Sec. 00 and confinement at 90 days absent a different penalty specified in the offense.
