Kyle, TX Outdoor Cooking: BBQ & Propane Rules (2026)

Kyle City Code § 8-186 sets structural and use standards for a mobile home park's service buildings and other community facilities, and subsection (c) singles out cooking and burning equipment, requiring that cooking shelters, barbecue pits, fireplaces, wood-burning stoves and incinerators be located, constructed, maintained and used so as to minimize fire hazards and smoke nuisance, both on the property on which used and on neighboring property. The same subsection bars any open fire outside a facility built for that purpose, forbids leaving an open fire unattended, and prohibits burning any fuel or material that produces dense smoke or objectionable odors.

This provision sits in Division 2, Mobile Home Parks, so it governs cooking and burning equipment on mobile home park property; the reviewed Code does not print a separate ordinance addressing propane grill placement on apartment balconies or other multifamily common areas. Kyle's building official enforces this rule alongside the rest of Article V, and the same building official is responsible for the mobile home park inspections required under § 8-152, so a barbecue placement problem found on a routine or complaint-driven park inspection can be cited under this section.

Because the rule ties directly to fire hazard, an unresolved violation also falls under the Code's elevated fire-safety penalty tier rather than the standard misdemeanor fine.
