West Jordan folds barbecue rules into its twenty-five-item list of prohibited and regulated park activities in section 8-13-6. Grilling itself is permitted almost everywhere in a city park, but subsection (D) draws a hard line at shelter structures: cooking under a pavilion or any other roofed structure is prohibited, so grills have to stay in the open. Every grill in use must have a fire extinguisher within five feet of it, a safety measure enforced alongside the chapter's separate ban on digging barbecue pits into park turf or soil in both parks and recreational facilities.

The rule also folds in outside authority: users and visitors must comply not only with the city's own grilling rules, regulations, and policies but with those of 'all other regulatory agencies,' which reaches the Unified Fire Authority and any Salt Lake Valley health department restriction that might apply during a burn ban or red-flag fire warning. Grilling sits next to a related, tighter rule in the same section: open fires on city property are prohibited outright except in a location the city has designated for them (subsection (J)), so a campfire or fire pit is treated far more strictly than a barbecue grill.

The city administrator is authorized under section 8-13-7 to adopt additional regulations and forms implementing the chapter, so specific grill placement or size rules for particular parks can be set administratively without a new ordinance.
