A vehicle left on a public street for more than 7 consecutive days without being moved may be declared abandoned and towed at the owner's expense. Inoperable or junk vehicles stored on residential property visible from public areas may violate property maintenance and zoning ordinances. The Cook County Sheriff's Office handles abandoned vehicle complaints on public roads. The Department of Building and Zoning handles property-related vehicle violations. Property owners have 30 days from a violation notice to bring properties into compliance.
