The Village of Schaumburg code prohibits the outdoor storage of abandoned, wrecked, or inoperable vehicles on residential property. A vehicle is considered abandoned or inoperable if it lacks current registration, has flat tires, missing parts, broken windows, or is otherwise unable to be legally driven. The village conducts regular code enforcement patrols for vehicle violations. Junk vehicles on private property may also be addressed through property maintenance code enforcement. Contact Code Enforcement through Community Development at (847) 895-4500.
Owners of abandoned or inoperable vehicles stored outdoors face fines starting at $50 per day. Vehicles on public streets may be towed after 48-72 hours of being tagged. Repeat violators face escalating fines.
