Schaumburg requires residential vehicles to be parked on improved surfaces (concrete, asphalt, or pavers). Parking on front lawns, unpaved surfaces, or grass is prohibited. Driveway expansions require a permit and must meet Village engineering standards.
Under the Schaumburg Village Code, all residential parking must occur on approved hard surfaces including concrete, asphalt, or interlocking pavers. Parking on grass, dirt, or unpaved surfaces in front yards or side yards is a code violation. Existing driveways must be maintained in good repair without significant cracking, crumbling, or drainage issues. Driveway expansions or new driveway construction requires a permit from the Community Development Department and must meet Village engineering standards for width, materials, drainage, and setbacks from property lines. The maximum driveway width is regulated to prevent excessive impervious surface coverage. Contact Community Development at (847) 895-4500 for permit applications.
Driveway and surface parking violations carry fines of $50 to $250. Unpermitted driveway expansions may require removal or correction at the owner's expense.
