Arlington Heights regulates driveway width, materials, and parking surfaces in residential areas. Vehicles must be parked on approved hard surfaces, and parking on grass or unpaved areas in front yards is prohibited.
The Village of Arlington Heights requires residential driveways to be constructed of approved hard surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, brick pavers, or other materials approved by the Engineering Department. Gravel driveways are generally not permitted in established residential areas. Driveway width is limited based on lot width and zoning district, typically not exceeding 24 feet at the curb cut. Circular driveways may be permitted on lots meeting minimum frontage requirements. Vehicles may not be parked on grass, dirt, or other unpaved surfaces in front or side yards. Driveway aprons within the public right-of-way must meet village engineering specifications and require a right-of-way permit for construction or replacement. Contact Engineering at (847) 368-5870.
Parking on unapproved surfaces or constructing a driveway without permits may result in code violations and fines. Owners may be required to remove non-conforming surfaces at their expense.
