Arlington Heights restricts the parking and storage of commercial vehicles in residential neighborhoods. Heavy commercial vehicles, construction equipment, and vehicles with commercial lettering above a certain weight class are generally prohibited from overnight residential parking.
Under the Arlington Heights zoning ordinance, commercial vehicles exceeding one ton rated capacity may not be parked overnight on residential properties or streets. Smaller commercial vehicles such as pickup trucks and vans used for personal transportation are generally permitted. Vehicles with mounted equipment, visible commercial materials, or construction-related attachments are subject to additional restrictions. Semi-trucks, tractor-trailers, and vehicles exceeding 22 feet in length are prohibited from parking in residential districts. Commercial vehicles making temporary deliveries or providing services are exempt during active work. Residents who operate businesses requiring commercial vehicles should contact Community Development at (847) 368-5200 for guidance on allowable parking arrangements.
Parking prohibited commercial vehicles in residential areas may result in violations with fines of $50 to $250 per offense. Repeated violations may lead to towing.
