It is unlawful in Sacramento County to park or store automotive vehicles or trailers without current registration, or in an inoperable condition, on any lot in any residential zone unless they are stored in a fully enclosed building. Nuisance vehicles include abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, inoperative, unregistered (over 6 months) and unmoved (over 72 hours) vehicles.
Sacramento County's Vehicle Abatement program (Code Enforcement, 916-874-6444) operates a complaint-driven inspection process. A vehicle that has been unregistered for more than six months OR has not moved for more than 72 hours OR is wrecked/dismantled qualifies as a nuisance. After notice the owner has typically 10 days to abate; if not, the County tows and bills the owner. Vehicles fully enclosed in a garage or shop are exempt.
Administrative penalty under SCC Title 1 plus tow and storage fees. Repeat violations may be referred for nuisance abatement under SCC Title 16.
