Folsom participates in the Sacramento County Abandoned Vehicle Abatement program. Vehicles abandoned on public or private property can be reported to Folsom Police and removed after notice. State law requires 72 hours of warning under CVC Β§22669.
California Vehicle Code Β§22669 authorizes Folsom to remove vehicles that are abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, or inoperative from public or private property. After a complaint, Folsom Police Department's abandoned vehicle officer posts a warning notice on the vehicle for at least 72 hours. If not moved, the vehicle is towed and stored. On private property, the owner or occupant must consent unless the vehicle is a public nuisance. Abandoned vehicles visible from the street are covered by FMC nuisance provisions. Inoperable vehicles stored in a residential front yard also violate zoning. Residents can report abandoned vehicles through the Folsom PD non-emergency line or online. Owners have the right to reclaim a stored vehicle after paying tow and storage fees.
Abandonment: vehicle towed, owner responsible for tow + storage ($300-$800+). Repeat violators: additional citations under FMC.
