Olathe, KS Parking Rules: Abandoned Vehicles (2026)

Olathe Municipal Code § 6.06.040 makes it unlawful to allow an inoperable vehicle or immediate vehicle hazard to exist on any premises, with narrow exceptions for vehicles inside a garage, one vehicle temporarily disabled 30 days or less, or vehicles properly screened behind a licensed business's fencing. Section 6.06.030 defines "Inoperable Vehicle" broadly, junked, parted-out, unregistered, or incapable of moving under its own power, and a vehicle temporarily out of service must be repaired within 30 days or it's deemed inoperable. Under § 6.06.041, a vehicle visible from the street with its license plate covered or obscured is presumed inoperable unless the owner proves current registration to a Public Officer within 15 days of notice.
