Elizabeth Code Ch. 7.24 prohibits abandoned vehicles on streets (72-hr limit) or visible on private property. NJ's Abandoned Vehicle Law (N.J.S.A. 39:10A-1) governs removal and auction.
Elizabeth Code Ch. 7.24 defines abandoned vehicles as unregistered, inoperable, or uninspected vehicles left on public streets for more than 72 continuous hours, or stored on private property visible from the street. Code enforcement tags the vehicle with a 48β72 hour removal notice; non-compliance triggers towing under N.J.S.A. 39:10A-1 (Abandoned Motor Vehicle Statute). On private property, inoperable vehicles must be enclosed in a garage or behind a 6-ft opaque fence. Active repair exemptions may apply with a limited permit. After tow, the vehicle is held for 15 days; unclaimed vehicles are auctioned or junked. Plainfield, Roselle, and Linden enforce parallel rules.
48β72 hour removal notice. Towing $150β$300 plus $40/day storage. Municipal penalty fines $100β$500. Repeat violations: up to $1,250. Title forfeiture after 30 days unclaimed per N.J.S.A. 39:10A-8.
