Albuquerque, NM Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Commercial-vehicle parking in Albuquerque is regulated through the Integrated Development Ordinance (IDO). Under Section 14-16-5-5(B)(4)(a), parking of more than two truck tractors and two semitrailers for more than two hours is allowed only with the property owner's permission on a premises with a primary non-residential use in the MX-M, MX-H, NR-C, NR-BP, NR-LM and NR-GM zone districts (or under a Film Production temporary-use permit). Section 14-16-5-5(B)(4)(b) similarly limits parking of heavy vehicles for more than two hours to non-residential premises in the MX-L, MX-M, MX-H or any Non-residential zone district.

Because none of these permissions extend to Residential zone districts, routine storage of commercial trucks and trailers in residential neighborhoods is not allowed. Where a home occupation is conducted, commercial-vehicle visits to the property are capped at no more than 10 per consecutive 7-day period (IDO Sec. 14-16-4-3(F)(10)(j)). On public streets, ROA 1994 Section 8-5-1-13 prohibits any vehicle 90 inches or more in width from being parked on a street except for attended loading or unloading. A commercial vehicle left on a street more than 36 hours is also subject to the abandoned-vehicle rule (ROA 1994 Sec. 8-5-2-3).
