Allegany County, MD Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 360-88.E, part of the home occupation article, governs where commercial vehicles tied to a home occupation may park. Outside the R-1 District, commercial vehicles may be parked at the residence of the vehicle's owner or operator in any district, provided the vehicles are not parked on a public right-of-way. Inside the R-1 District specifically, the rule tightens to one commercial vehicle at the residence of the owner or operator, again kept outside the public right-of-way. The same subsection separately requires that off-street parking be provided for any employees, customers and incidental traffic generated by the home occupation, in conformance with the county's general off-street parking table at § 360-139.

Because § 360-139.A sets a minimum parking-space size of nine feet by 18 feet with a five-foot setback from streets, alleys or rights-of-way, a homeowner keeping a commercial truck or van at a residence in the R-1 District needs to fit that vehicle, plus any required customer or employee parking, entirely within the lot rather than along the curb.
