Cedar Park Code §17.04.005 prohibits parking any vehicle with a manufacturer's rated carrying capacity over 1-1/2 tons or longer than 21 feet on a public roadway or right-of-way in a residential subdivision at any time. A separate citywide nighttime ban (10:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m.) applies to these vehicles on any public roadway.
Article 17.04 of the Cedar Park Code of Ordinances makes it unlawful to stop, stand or park any vehicle having a manufacturer's rated carrying capacity of more than 1-1/2 tons, or exceeding 21 feet in length, on any public roadway or public right-of-way in a residential subdivision at any time. The ordinance treats commercial trucks, box trucks, dump trucks, semi-tractors, and large trailers under the same weight/length test as RVs and trailers. In addition, the code prohibits parking such vehicles on any public roadway or right-of-way anywhere in the city between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., except for repairs or servicing necessitated by an emergency or pursuant to a permit issued under §17.04.013. Statutory exceptions allow brief stops where the operator is making bona fide pickups or deliveries or for the temporary loading or unloading of the vehicle. Cedar Park also designates 'through truck traffic' restrictions in Article 17.04 limiting heavy through-truck routes. State-level preemption note: Texas HB 2127 (the 'Death Star' preemption bill, 2023) preempts municipal regulation in fields such as labor and agriculture but does not preempt local traffic/parking codes adopted under Transportation Code Chapter 542 authority, so Cedar Park's parking restrictions remain enforceable.
Parking violations under Chapter 17 are enforced by Cedar Park Police and Code Compliance as Class C misdemeanors in Municipal Court. Fines follow the court's standard parking fine schedule plus state court costs; repeat or abandoned-vehicle violations may result in tow and impound under Article 4.11 (Wrecker Business Regulations). Citations may be issued for each day a vehicle remains in violation.
