Howard County, IN Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

08(B) of the Howard County Code sets hard dimensional and weight ceilings for vehicles left on county streets and alleys outside Kokomo, Greentown, and Russiaville. A truck parked on a street cannot be wider than 8 feet, higher than 10 feet, or longer than 28 feet, counting any load. A semitrailer, whether alone or coupled to a tractor, is held to the same 8-foot width and 10-foot height but gets a 36-foot length allowance. Buses are capped at 8 feet wide, 10 feet high, and 26 feet long.

Separately, any vehicle whose gross weight (including its load) exceeds 7,000 pounds cannot be parked on a street at all. These limits do not apply while a driver is actively loading or unloading, nor to vehicles on state highways within the county, nor to a mechanically disabled vehicle whose operator has set out a lighted flare or reflective warning device 100 feet ahead and 100 feet behind it. The Sheriff or the Howard Traffic Commission can grant a limited-time exception for specific purposes. Enforcement runs through the Howard County Sheriff's Office and the Traffic Commission under Chapter 70, adopted by BCC Ordinance 2001-59.
