Code of Indianapolis & Marion County Sec. 621-118 bars commercial vehicles and trucks with more than two axles from parking on any street or alley between midnight and 6:00 a.m. for longer than one hour, and from parking in a residential district for longer than one hour at any time (except active loading/unloading or service calls).
Commercial-vehicle parking on Indianapolis streets is regulated by Code Sec. 621-118 of Chapter 621. Subsection (a) (overnight parking) makes it unlawful for a commercial vehicle or truck with more than two (2) axles to park or stand on any street or alley in the city between 12:00 midnight and 6:00 a.m. for longer than one hour. Subsection (b) (residence districts) bars any truck with more than two axles (including the truck-tractor of a semi tractor-trailer) from parking or standing on any street or alley in a residential district for longer than one hour, except household, moving, or delivery trucks while actually loading or unloading property for adjacent residences, and service trucks while engaged in service calls at adjacent residences. The registered owner is prima facie liable for the violation when the operator cannot be identified (Sec. 621-103). Off-street commercial-vehicle storage on a residential lot is separately constrained by the Dwelling Districts Zoning Ordinance, which permits only accessory uses customarily incidental to a residence.
Violations are enforced as civil ordinance violations through the Indianapolis ordinance violations bureau; the registered owner is prima facie liable under Sec. 621-103 when the driver is unknown.
