Indianapolis, IN Parking Rules: Preferential Parking Districts (2026)

Sec. 621-601 to 621-603 lets residents living directly adjacent to a street inside a residential permit parking zone established under Sec. 621-602 apply for a residential parking permit good for one year, plus up to two visitor permits. Applications go to the department of business and neighborhood services and require proof of residency and vehicle ownership; that department and DPW rule on eligibility. Dozens of specific street segments citywide, including stretches of 9th, 13th, 18th, 22nd and 44th Streets, are individually listed as established zones. Permits don't guarantee a space and don't override posted no-parking zones.
