NRH prohibits parking commercial vehicles over one ton rated capacity on residential streets or in residential driveways overnight. Semi-tractors, trailers, and equipment must be parked at commercial or industrial properties or approved storage yards.
NRH Code of Ordinances Chapter 54 and the Zoning Ordinance restrict commercial vehicle parking in residential areas. Vehicles with a manufacturer rated capacity exceeding one ton (roughly 6,000 pounds gross vehicle weight), semi-tractors, semi-trailers, box trucks over 20 feet long, dump trucks, flatbed trucks, cement mixers, wreckers, and construction equipment cannot be parked or stored on residential streets, driveways, or yards between 10 PM and 6 AM. Daytime parking of such vehicles in residential zones is also limited to active service calls or deliveries. Vehicles displaying commercial signage, ladders, tool racks, or similar work equipment are generally considered commercial regardless of weight rating. Food trucks and catering trucks cannot be parked overnight in residential zones unless fully enclosed in a garage. Commercial districts, industrial districts, and approved truck yards are the proper long-term storage locations. Texas Transportation Code and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations also apply to commercial motor vehicle operations. Trailer storage (utility, cargo, equipment trailers) is subject to the RV and trailer storage rules and must be behind the front building line.
Each overnight violation is a Class C misdemeanor with fines up to 500 dollars per day. Vehicles may be towed at owner expense under Texas Transportation Code Chapter 684 after proper notice.
