Putnam County, FL Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 42-4 defines a commercial vehicle as one "owned or used by a corporation, association, partnership, individual, sole proprietorship or other entity conducting business for economic gain." Any such vehicle with a gross empty weight over 7,000 pounds, as shown on its registration, is barred from a paved county-maintained road once the board of county commissioners has resolved to post that road with a weight-limit sign, a step the board takes only for essentially residential roads at risk of damage from design, deterioration or weather.

The rule applies only in the unincorporated county. Exemptions cover vehicles making local deliveries or pickups on or accessed by posted roads, including timber-removal vehicles, government vehicles, public-service vehicles such as garbage trucks, postal vehicles and emergency rescue units, and private mail carriers and couriers. Enforcement runs through the sheriff, deputy sheriffs or code enforcement officers, who may issue a citation on probable cause. An uncontested citation is paid within 30 days at the class II violation rate under Administrative Order No. 97-002, currently $132.00 total; a contested citation goes before the county judge, who can impose a penalty up to $500.00 plus costs after a hearing.

Failing to pay or timely contest triggers a show-cause order, and willfully refusing to sign a citation is a second-degree misdemeanor under F.S. § 162.21(6).
