Full Breakdown
City Code § 77.009 makes it unlawful for any person or business to park, store, or leave a commercial or construction vehicle, equipment, or materials on any Sioux Falls street, including residential streets, not just downtown or commercial corridors. A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE is defined as one adapted, designed, equipped, and used for a specific commercial function that isn't a personal passenger vehicle. Personal passenger vehicles, service vehicles, emergency vehicles, and disabled vehicles left under 24 hours are exempt, and contractors can get a $15 permit from the city engineer to leave equipment at a construction site beyond 24 hours.
Violations & Fines
Prohibited parking draws a $15 fine paid within seven days, rising to $30 after seven days and up to $60 after 30-60 days unpaid, per § 77.999.
