Dearborn, MI Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Section 18-762 is a single sentence. It prints no exception, no time window, and no grace period: a vehicle left alongside a curb painted yellow violates it. The section applies inside the City of Dearborn in Wayne County, Michigan.

The rule appears in Division 4, Paid Parking, of Chapter 18, next to the meter rules. Section 18-761 directs the chief of police to place lines or marks on the curb, street or other area about or alongside each parking meter to designate the parking space, and bars any person from parking or standing a vehicle across such a line or mark. Section 18-762 adds the yellow curb prohibition. Neither section prints a definition of the shade of yellow, a striping specification, or a procedure for who paints a curb, so the ordinance turns on the curb being painted yellow.

Enforcement runs through § 18-769(a): any police officer, ordinance officer, or private parking administrator designated by the chief of police can enforce the division. Under § 18-769(b), a person convicted of violating any provision of the division, or any rule or regulation promulgated under it, for which no other penalty is provided is responsible for a civil infraction. Section 18-762 prints no penalty of its own, so that civil infraction is the penalty that attaches to a yellow curb violation. The misdemeanor in § 18-764 covers dropping slugs in a meter or tampering with one, not curb parking.

Towing sits on top of the ticket. Under § 18-768 the enforcing officer can serve or fasten a parking meter violation notice on a vehicle found parked in violation of any provision of the division, and can also have it towed, with removal at the risk and expense of the owner. Section 18-767 makes the registration plate displayed on the vehicle prima facie evidence that the owner was the person who parked it, so the plate ties the owner to the violation.
