Full Breakdown

Indio Municipal Code § 71.16(A) defines the red curb marking as an absolute no-stopping zone, in force at all hours rather than during posted times like the yellow, white and green zones set out in the same section. The only carve-out is for a bus stopping in a red zone that is itself marked or signed as a bus zone. Red curbs are placed by the City Public Works Director wherever stopping would interfere with traffic flow, sight lines or emergency access, and the restriction runs around the clock, seven days a week.

Violations & Fines

Stopping in a red zone is a citable parking violation under § 71.50 and can result in the vehicle being towed under California Vehicle Code § 22651.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stop briefly in a red zone to drop someone off in Indio?
No: red curbs bar stopping at any time, not just parking; only marked bus zones are exempt.
Does the red-curb rule ever expire by time of day?
No: unlike yellow, white or green zones, red curb restrictions apply around the clock.
