Aurora requires vehicles in residential driveways to be parked on an approved hard surface (concrete, asphalt, or pavers). Parking on lawns or unimproved areas of the front yard is prohibited under the Unified Development Ordinance.
Aurora's Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Section 146-4.7 regulates residential parking surfaces. Vehicles may only be parked on approved hard surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, or paver systems. Parking on grass, dirt, gravel (unless specifically approved), or other unimproved surfaces in the front or side yard is a code violation. Driveways must connect to the street via an approved curb cut permitted through Aurora Public Works. Maximum driveway width and coverage of the front yard is limited to preserve streetscape character. Trailers, boats, and RVs follow separate rules under UDO recreational vehicle provisions. Report violations to Aurora Neighborhood Services at 303-739-7280.
Parking on unimproved surfaces is a municipal code violation subject to warning followed by citation and fines. Repeat violations may escalate penalties.
