No more than 50% of the front yard may be covered by that paving in any combination, and no vehicle taller than twelve feet six inches may be parked in the front yard at all. 2020(c). 2017 extends the unpaved-surface ban into the R-1 and R-2 districts specifically, while grandfathering a graveled driveway that existed on January 1, 2019 as a nonconforming use, provided it is kept in good operational condition, maintained with compressed gravel or compacted crushed stone at least four inches deep within a distinct border, and does not become a hazard. That nonconforming status ends if the property is redeveloped at more than 50% of its value or converted to nonresidential use. 2028.
Violations & Fines
Violating the parking, paving, or vehicle-height limits is a public nuisance and may be prosecuted as an infraction or a misdemeanor under Section 9-3.2029, with misdemeanor fines and jail time capped at the limits set in California Government Code Section 36901.
