3(B) governs parking areas in the front yard and corner yard of single-family detached lots. Vehicles, whether parked or stored, must sit in a garage, carport, driveway or parking pad; hard surfacing of asphalt, concrete, brick, pavers or an equivalent material is required unless one of the ordinance's specific gravel exceptions applies. Gravel or decorative stone is allowed only: on parcels larger than five acres outside established subdivisions, and only after the first 100 feet of paved driveway surface; for residential rental properties in Old Town on adjacent parcels under common ownership, through an approved alternative parking plan, with the gravel contained by a solid discernable edge; and to maintain existing gravel areas in need of repair, though gravel cannot be used to expand an existing gravel driveway or parking area, which must use approved hard materials for any new area.

Wherever gravel or decorative stone is used, it must be at least two inches deep throughout. 3(A) sets the baseline for new construction: single-family detached lots on plats approved after August 8, 2022 must provide four on-site parking spaces at minimum dimensions of 18 feet wide by 35 feet deep (spaces in a garage or carport don't count toward that total), and single-family attached lots need two spaces at 18 by 25 feet, with the Planning & Development Director able to adjust dimensions for unusual lot shape or topography.
