Rock Hill, SC Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

3(A), the use-specific standard for parking of recreational equipment, allows residents in Rock Hill, York County, South Carolina, to keep boats, boat trailers, camping trailers, recreational vehicles, motorized homes and house trailers on residential property in every zoning district except downtown (DTWN). For a residential primary use, the ordinance draws a line at 20,000 pounds: recreational equipment lighter than that may be parked permanently behind the front plane of the house, in the yard area the ordinance diagrams. Heavier or larger equipment, including tractor-trailer cabs and any trailer or vehicle over 15,000 pounds, 20 feet in length, or 9 feet in height on a lot larger than half an acre, is handled separately under the ordinance's vehicle-type table rather than this standard recreational-parking rule.

Short-term loading or unloading of recreational equipment is allowed in the driveway or the side or rear yard for up to 72 hours, and the ordinance separately lets a visiting recreational vehicle of any size stay on the property up to twice a year, for a maximum of two weeks per visit. Regardless of size, the ordinance flatly prohibits parking recreational equipment in a location that blocks a sidewalk, obstructs traffic visibility, or sits along the street. Non-residential properties may park recreational equipment owned by the property owner in a side or rear yard or parking area only if it is not visible from adjacent roads.
