Full Breakdown
Section 211-35F of the Zoning chapter, titled Storage of boats, trailers and commercial vehicles, contains the Township's rule for what can sit in a residential driveway. Subsection F(6) sets a weight line at a gross vehicle weight of 7,000 pounds. A commercial vehicle at or above that weight cannot be parked on the street or in a driveway in any residential zone, except to make deliveries or provide services to or for residents on that street. Commercial vehicles of 7,000 pounds or greater engaged in construction activities can be parked or stored on an active construction site in a residential zone. The subsection was amended 8-21-2001 by Ord. No. 2001-54.
The same section regulates recreational equipment kept on single-family property. Outdoor storage of an unoccupied recreational vehicle, motor home, travel trailer, camper or boat is permitted only if the unit sits at least three feet from any side or rear lot line and 10 feet from any street line, and the travel trailer, camper or boat does not exceed 35 feet in length and eight feet in width. Only one travel trailer or camper and no more than two boats and/or boat trailers can be stored outdoors in any required area of a single-family lot. Storage cannot last longer than 12 consecutive months, the vehicle cannot be occupied or provided with utility connections other than those required for vehicle maintenance, and it cannot hold nonrecreational material. Under F(7), no trailer or camper can be used as a dwelling or sleeping quarters, except for temporary residency while a damaged dwelling is replaced or as a construction office with a temporary permit from the Building Inspector. Tractor trailers and commercial trailers are governed instead by § 211-35Z.
Properties with a seasonal rental licensed dwelling face a separate, stricter paving rule in § 164-19.
Violations & Fines
Section 211-36A makes a violation of the Zoning chapter punishable on conviction by a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $1,250, imprisonment of up to 90 days or community service of up to 90 days, in the discretion of the Municipal Court Judge. Each successive day of continued violation is a separate offense, and § 211-36B allows summary abatement by a restraining order or injunction.
