Summary
Every electric vehicle charging station in Anaheim needs a Building Official permit before it goes in, and installing or running one without a permit is unlawful. Existing stations are grandfathered unless they undergo a material physical change.
All Electric Vehicle Charging Stations shall require a permit issued in accordance with Section 15.05.040 of this Chapter. It shall be unlawful for any person to install, operate, or maintain an Electric Vehicle Charging Station without such a permit for such work, and the permit shall be secured from the Building Official by the owner or the owner's agent. Notwithstanding the foregoing, any Electric Vehicle Charging Station established or permitted prior to the effective date of this Chapter shall not require a permit issued under Section .040 of this Chapter unless physical modifications or alterations are undertaken that materially change the size, type, or components of the Electric Vehicle Charging Station.

Violations & Fines
Installing, operating, or maintaining a charging station without the required permit is unlawful under Section 15.05.040.020. Building Official decisions on permit applications become final unless appealed to the Planning Commission within 10 days of the decision under Section 15.05.070, and any conditional use permit denial can be appealed further to the City Council under Chapter 18.60.
