Bulloch County, GA Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Section 1420 of the Zoning Ordinance (Appendix C) governs any electric vehicle charging station installed for public use. Each unit must be a Level 2 or Level 3 charger meeting National Electrical Code standards, and a multi-port charger counts each port as a separate station for permitting purposes. The station and its parking spaces must sit in the side or rear yard of the principal building rather than fronting a public right-of-way, unless the installation is set back at least 200 feet from that right-of-way.

Charging spaces are additive: they must be provided above the site's otherwise-required parking minimum, and they cannot make up more than ten percent of the total parking on site. A new charging space must measure at least ten feet wide by 20 feet long, be clearly marked as reserved for EV charging, and sit 24 inches back from the parking space edge behind wheel stops, curbs or bollards. Equipment cannot exceed eight feet in height, cannot carry an overhead canopy, and cannot have appurtenances beyond what operation requires, while cords and connectors must be routed so they never cross a driveway, sidewalk or passenger unloading area.

Any electric vehicle parking sign needs its location, legend and mounting height shown on the plans filed with the building permit application. Adequate security and downcast lighting are required at the station, and a station idle for 90 continuous days with no pending reuse application is deemed abandoned; the property owner must remove it within three months of notice or the county can remove it and place a lien on the property for the cost.
