Margate, FL Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Margate does not set an EV-ready space count in the section on charging. Instead, § 40.705(H) of the Land Development Code requires a master parking plan before any building or engineering permit issues for a new parking area, a new use or change of use, or a substantial modification such as altered vehicle circulation or an expansion or reduction of the parking area. For projects other than single-family or duplex housing, the property owner submits the plan to the Development Services Department for review and approval by the Development Review Committee.

The plan must designate off-street parking spaces, landscape areas, pedestrian access, bicycle parking, disabled parking, drop-off and pick-up areas, dumpsters, loading zones, truck turning movements, drainage, lighting, access aisles and driveways. If applicable to the property, the plan must also show electric vehicle charging stations, fuel pumps, valet parking, vehicle gates, queueing areas, short-term pick-up parking, curbside restaurant spaces, reserved spaces, hydrants, freestanding signs and other accessory structures. The plan must be prepared by a professional engineer licensed in Florida and include a detailed parking calculation.

Separately, § 40.613(A) applies its vehicle fueling station regulations to facilities that dispense automobile fuel, contain vehicle charging stations, oil, or lubricants to the general public. Those regulations include a 1,000-foot separation between stations, 100 feet from any residential use, a minimum lot of 100 by 125 feet, canopy setbacks of 25 feet from the right-of-way, and 25 per cent landscaped or pervious area. Section 40.613(G) also bars lighting that causes direct glare onto an adjacent right-of-way or property. In the B-3 district, a vehicle fuel station is a special exception governed by § 40.613.
