Margate, FL Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 33-69.52 adds Margate's own street rules on top of Chapter 316, Florida Statutes, which section 33-69.51 adopts as the city traffic code. Subsection (5) sets the manner of parking. A vehicle parks in the direction of authorized traffic with its right-hand wheels parallel to the curb or gutter pan and within twelve (12) inches of it, and no parking is allowed on a swale where a curb is provided. Parking cannot leave less than ten (10) feet of roadway width for moving traffic. Where a street has no curb, a parked car cannot take more than twelve inches of the pavement, and no vehicle can park parallel to a car already on the street by using the swale beside it. Walkways used by the public and clearly defined parking spaces cannot be blocked.

Section 33-70 makes it unlawful to park in violation of any parking ordinance, on public or private property, and the vehicle's owner answers for the ticket unless the car was stolen or driven by someone without permission. In that case the owner must supply that person's name and address. Police or code compliance officers affix the citation. The section 1-8(b)(3) schedule sets "All other parking" at $35, $75 and $150, then $150 to $500 for a fourth offense, parking in a disabled space at $250, and parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, fire connection or fire lane at $50. A ticket unpaid after seven working days adds $15, every citation carries a $5 technology fee, and a person who contests before a county judge faces a $100 civil penalty ($250 in a disabled space) plus court costs.

Officers can also tow. Under 33-69.52(3), sworn members of the police department can impound a vehicle left as an obstruction or hazard or standing in a marked tow away zone, and the owner pays the towing and storage charges. A vehicle with three unanswered citations can be immobilized with a boot after written notice, and a hearing before the city manager is held within 24 hours of a request.
