Bloomington, IL Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 29-1410 authorizes curb loading zones "when appropriately designated as such," and directs the City Traffic Engineer to designate, place and maintain the official signs marking them. Once posted, a curb loading zone gives commercial vehicles up to 30 minutes of full lawful parking time, and all of Chapter 29's general parking regulations still apply inside the zone alongside that limit. Subsection C makes it illegal for anyone to directly or indirectly let a commercial vehicle they own sit in a curb loading zone unless the vehicle is actually being loaded or unloaded; a truck idling there for any other purpose, or parked past the 30-minute mark, violates the section.

on weekdays to use any curb loading zone, or, when none is available, to briefly occupy an adjacent travel lane instead. Enforcement runs through the Bloomington Police Department, which issues citations under the fine schedule fixed in § 29-1819, Schedule XVI. Because loading zones exist only where the Traffic Engineer has designated and signed them, rather than under one fixed citywide list, drivers should read the posted sign controlling a specific space before assuming the 30-minute allowance applies there.
