Bloomington, IL Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Bloomington regulates how many vehicles, and how many recreational ones, a homeowner can keep outside in the City's core single-family and two-family residential zoning districts. Under § 29-2206(B), property in an R1-A, R1-B, R1-C, R-2 or GAP 1 through 4 zoning district may have no more than four operable motor vehicles or trailers carrying current, legal registration parked outside of a garage or carport that meets Code requirements, plus exactly one camping or recreational vehicle stored the same way. Every vehicle counted toward that limit, including the RV, must sit in a legal accessory off-street parking space as defined under Chapter 44-7-2 of the Zoning Code rather than on the lawn, in the right-of-way, or in any other unimproved area of the lot.

The limit sits inside the same section that requires unregistered, uninspected or inoperable vehicles to be kept fully enclosed (Subsection A) and lets the City seek a court order to remove a vehicle parked in violation of the section (Subsection D), so an RV or trailer kept outside a garage in violation of the one-vehicle cap, or parked outside a legal parking space, is exposed to the same court-ordered removal remedy as an abandoned car. The rule was adopted by Ordinance No. 2008-77, replacing the City's earlier residential-parking ordinance.
